‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: Meg Ryan Posts Heartfelt Homage to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner through a message shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the statement said. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s extensive filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
