Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."

George Springer has now slugged 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto's team claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
