The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
