Whenever a prominent prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- Another creative title was excluded that year
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
