The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
