Star Refutes Anti-Vaccine Position Following Lending His Voice To Contentious Coronavirus Documentary
The acclaimed actor has provided his narration to a recent film that questions the efficacy of vaccines and commends former health official Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Film's Disputed Origins
Named "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is inspired by a popular book co-authored by a controversial scientist, who became famous during the global outbreak for claims that Covid was linked to a problematic version of the seasonal immunization.
The publication's writing partner, Kent Heckenlively, has penned books with far-right media personality the Infowars host. He wrote online hailing Neeson's involvement in the documentary.
A Strong Statement
A spokesperson for Neeson have provided a comment pushing back against implications that he supports anti-immunization beliefs.
"Everyone can acknowledge that corruption may occur within the pharmaceutical industry, but that should never be confused with opposition to vaccines," the response explains. "Liam never has been, and remains not, anti-vax. His considerable work with Unicef underscores his consistent support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
The response continued that the actor was not involved in crafting the film's editorial content and that inquiries about its content are best addressed to the filmmakers.
Key Claims Within the Documentary
As presented, the script spoken by Neeson features several provocative claims:
- It claims that pro-vaccine voices have insisted on "complete compliance" to health authorities.
- It declares that "medical science has become highly politicised."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is interviewed saying, "The big problem with vaccines is that they just aren't safely tested."
- It takes aim at stay-at-home orders, saying they caused psychological harm that cost thousands of lives.
- Concerning Covid vaccines, it mentions a perspective that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "risky trials."
Historical Controversy and Recent Issues
The documentary further cites a 2004 BBC documentary about AIDS medication trials on children, which was subsequently the topic of a BBC apology by the broadcaster for unbalanced reporting.
Last month, RFK Jr directed the Centers for Disease Control to alter its official position that there is no connection between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This assertion is echoed in the documentary, despite a new report from the World Health Organisation reiterating no such link has been found.
A Past Record of Support
Standing in contrast to the documentary's tone, Neeson has previously shown firm endorsement for vaccines in his role as a Unicef global ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "a remarkable human success story," noting that "The discourse about vaccines in lately has lost sight of how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in our history."
"Plague of Corruption" concludes with Neeson's narration stating, "This is not the finish of our journey. Rather, it is the start of a different phase."
