Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
