Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
